CBSE Class 12 syllabus 2020 – NCERT adds scrapping of Article 370, drops J&K separatist politics portion. The National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) has revised a chapter in its Class 12 political science textbook to drop a paragraph on separatist politics in Jammu and Kashmir and to add a brief mention of scrapping of its special status last year. About NCERT:

The National Council of Educational Research and Training is an autonomous organization of the Government of India which was established in 1961 as a literary, scientific and charitable Society under the Societies’ Registration Act. Its headquarters are located at Sri Aurbindo Marg in New Delhi. Textbooks published by NCERT are prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from classes I to XII, with exceptions for a few subjects. Around 19 school boards from 14 states have adopted or adapted the books.

CBSE Class 12 Article 370 Portion:

Article 370 acknowledges the special status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir in terms of autonomy and its ability to formulate laws for the state’s permanent residents. In the 1954 Presidential order, among other things, the Fundamental Rights in the Indian Constitution were made applicable to Kashmir with exceptions.

The chapter will now have information on the abrogation of article 370 which removed the special status of the state and converted it two union territories- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. But the part “Separatism and Beyond” has been removed from it. At the Same Time, the NCERT has also replaced the old map of Jammu and Kashmir in Class 12 political science textbook from this year.

Earlier this month, the CBSE which planned to cut down 30 percent of the syllabus for the academic session 2020-2021 was criticized for deleting certain topics. Some of the topics that were removed from class 10 syllabus included a chapter on Democracy and Diversity, Gender, Religion and Caste, popular struggles and movement, and challenges to democracy. For Class 11, the deleted portions include the chapters on Federalism, Citizenship, Nationalism, Secularism.
