Chennai Colleges Consider Fully Online Admission Process. City colleges are planning to go completely online for the admission process due to the Covid-19 crisis. The higher education department also announced that admissions to 109 government arts and science colleges will be done online. There are more than 92,000 seats available in these colleges.
Principal Thomas Amirtham said:
Loyola College is planning to convert the entire admission process online. “We used to call for students for certificate verification and interview. This year students will not be allowed to enter our campus and certificate verification and interviews will be held online,”
The college plans to use a digi locker facility to verify the marks of the students. The interviews are likely to take place on apps like Google Meet.
The college is introducing two commerce courses BCom Accounting and Finance, BCom Computer Applications. These courses are based on emerging areas like fintech, block chain and data analytics. “These are two new courses that will cover recent developments in fintech technology. It will open global opportunities to the students,” he added.
Principal P Wilson said:
Madras Christian College also plans to move its admission process online. “We have opened the online portal for applications. After uploading, the applications will be ranked and sent to the concerned departments automatically,” The College is also thinking of moving the enrolling process online.
Principal S Kothai said:
So far, students appear in person for interviews at Ethiraj College for Women. “This year we don’t know how to conduct personal interviews. There is a possibility we may conduct the interviews online,” The college also introducing two new PG programs MSc Psychology and MA in Human Resource Management. DG Vaishnav College is also planning to conduct interviews via video conference.
