Applications are invited for empanelment of Advocates and Law Firms to represent Coal India Limited and its officers/officials before Supreme Court of India, High Court of Delhi, High Court of Calcutta, other Courts and Tribunals within the jurisdiction of Delhi and Calcutta. Advocates/Law Firms so empanelled would also be responsible for providing Coal India Limited with legal advice and legal opinion as and when requested for.
Advocates/Law Firms which are already empanelled in Coal India Limited for Supreme Court of India, High Court of Delhi or High Court of Calcutta or advocates who have already sent the application for empanelment in Coal India Limited must send the applications again as per the instant advertisement.

Qualification and Eligibility Criteria
Applicant must be an Advocate enrolled under a Bar Council as per Advocates Act, 1961. In case of a Law Firm, it must apply through an Advocate enrolled under a Bar Council as per Advocates Act, 1961.
Applicant should be familiar with various branches of law especially those concerning Mining Laws including Coal Mines, Land Acquisition law, Competition law, Constitutional law, Company Law, Forest and Environmental Law, Service Law, Labour Law, Law of Contract, Commercial Law, Property Laws and Taxation etc. However, the domain of knowledge and expertise need not be restricted to the aforesaid only. Applicant must be well conversant with the rules of practice in Supreme Court, Various High Court, especially High Court of Delhi, High Court of Calcutta and Courts Subordinate thereto, and those of Tribunals and other Legal Fora
In addition to above, Applicant is required to have a minimum professional /court practice experience as under

The above-mentioned period of experience shall be reckoned from the date of enrolment mentioned on the Certificate of Enrolment issued by Bar Council in case of empanelment for High Courts or Subordinate Courts/Tribunals.For considering empanelment for the Supreme Court, generally those Advocates who are regularly practicing in Supreme Court oflndia including Advocates-on-Record of the Supreme Court would be considered, if they are otherwise found to be competent and suitable. However they must possess 10 years of practice in Supreme Court. Designation as an Advocate-on Record in Supreme Court of India or Orders/Judgments of Supreme Court noting tlte appearance of Advocate or Certificate of Practice would be considered as a valid proof of 10 years of practice.Applicant must possess excellent communication skills, drafting skills and court craft.Due weightage shall be given to Advocates having experience in handling cases of Central Public Sector Enterprises and Government Departments.Mode of Application Eligible applicants may send their applications in the enclosed proforma alonB with bio data and relevant supporting documents (self-attested scanned copies) firstname.lastname@example.org. ln case the attachments are voluminous the documents may be compressed/zipped or may be shared over an online drive link. However, the applicant must be practising regularly in the forum for which empanelment is being sought and must maintain a fully functional working office in the precinct of the forum.Mode of Selection The applications received would be scrutinized. Suitability would be adjudged on the following parameters:
- Length of practice and specialization in the area of law relevant to the Company.
- List of Landmark Judgments wherein the applicant had substantial contribution.
- Proper and adequate infrastructure such as office premises, number of junior advocates, assistants, clerks and fax, mobile phone, fixed phone, internet connection etc.
- Annual income-tax return filed with the Tax Authorities for last three years
- Current and Past empanelment of the applicant by other organization/establishments/regulators and especially by Public Sector Enterprises and Govt. Departments
- Notable achievements
Tenure of Empanelment
- Initial empanelment would be for a period of five years from the date of receipt of acceptance of empanelment. However, the performance would be reviewed periodically and at least annually.
- The tenure of empanelment may further be renewed for another three years in addition to the above at the discretion of CIL.
- Notwithstanding anything mentioned in 5.1 or 5.2 above, CIL reserves the right as regards to assignment of cases and revocation of empanelment without assigning any reason.
