DU OBE – Delhi HC directs university to conduct physical exams from September 14. Delhi High Court has asked the Delhi University to begin the physical exams for the final year undergraduate students from September 14, 2020, onwards. The HC has also asked the university to work out the modalities for the stay and transportation of the disabled students who left the city due to the lockdown.

Delhi University Open Book Examination:

When the court had suggested the university begin the exams from September 8, 2020, the counsel representing the university stated that they would need at least two weeks from August 31, 2020, to conduct the exams. The university also informed the HC that it will start declaring the results for the students who appeared for the online exams by the end of September 2020.

Official Notice Says:

University of Delhi has commenced with Open Book Examination (OBE) on 10 August 2020 as a one-time measure in view of the emerging COVID – 19 pandemic situations for the final semester/year regular, NCWEB and SOL students. In the last four days, students have successfully attempted and submitted their answer scripts on the OBE portal of DU. some of our students, who at present are in remote/ far-flung areas have submitted their answer scripts via the option of email available to them. Students with special needs have also been given the option to send answer scripts by email.

Exams for PwD Students:

The university that it will need specific figures on the number of PwD students and the facilities that is to be provided to them. The court has asked the university to verify the number of PwD students who will be appearing for the physical exams and work out the provisions for their stay and transportation. The HC bench has also asked the university to file an affidavit on the same.

DU stated that:

Specific directions are to be issued for conducting the examinations for the final semester PwD students. The counsel appearing for the National Federation of Blind stated that there is an obligation on the state to take the responsibility in certain circumstances and PwD students appearing for the exams will face difficulties as hostels are still closed and there is no place to stay on reaching Delhi along with proper transportation not being available given the current situation.
