Final year exams must be conducted – UGC to universities. There are few states in the country cancelled the final ears examinations due to COVID-19 crisis. Delhi has cancelled recently. This is against UGC guidelines complains UGC.
Higher Education Secretary Amit Khare says, “States are not permitted to cancel Final ears exams since UGC Act clearly says UGC and AICTE have the whole rights to take decisions whereas State Governments has rights on school education in their states”.
There is a political battle with Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi. As there are few non-BJP states cancelled final ear exams already and Delhi has joined now, in the meantime, UGC announces that Final exams have to be conducted in September 2020 in online or offline mode.
UGC general secretary Rajnish Jain says UGC guidelines have to be followed by the states since options are given to conduct examinations based on COVID situations. Rahul Gandhi accused UGC of creating confusions and raised a campaign with students in the National Students Union of India (NSUI).
NSUI in-charge Ruchi Gupta said,” UGC should have consulted states before producing the guidelines since there are few states who announced about the exams and UGC’s new guidelines without consultation is creating confusion among students.”
HRD Secretary Khare informed about the proceedings in Delhi High Court against Delhi University and the hearing is on Jul 14. He also said, “There shouldn’t be rules to avoid final year exams due to COVID issue. There are options given b UGC though. Degrees cannot be provided without proper examinations. In future, there might be people from other states stating flood issue and provide degree certificate without final exams which cannot be permitted and this affects the entire education system.”
