The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are autonomous public technical and research universities located in India. They are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961, which has declared them as institutions of national importance and lays down their powers, duties, and framework for governance. The Minister of Human Resource Development is the ex officio Chairperson of the IIT Council. Now HRD Minister made the announcement regarding IIT criteria.
HRD Minister Statement on dropping IIT Class 12 Exam Criteria:
Human Resource Development Minister said that “For admissions to the IITs, apart from qualifying the JEE (Advanced), the eligibility was to secure either minimum score of 75 per cent marks in Class 12 board exams or rank among the top 20 percentile in their qualifying examinations and Due to the partial cancellation of Class 12 exams by several boards, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criterion for JEE (Advanced) 2020-qualified candidates this time”.
IIT Class 12 Exam Criteria Details:
IITs Admission Eligibility is , as per the rules, general category students are required to secure at least 75 per cent marks in the Class 12 board exam or figure in the top 20 percentile of their respective secondary school examination board results, apart from qualifying the JEE (Advanced).
Students those belonging to scheduled caste (SCs) and scheduled tribe (ST) have to scored minimum 65 per cent marks in class 12 board exam or fulfill the top 20 percentile criteria, apart from qualifying the entrance test.
