The Tripura Government has decided to start neighborhood classes for students who are unable to attend online classes. The government has taken a decision to begin with the Neighborhood classes by August 20, 2020. The initiative will assist the students who could not make use of the digital initiatives given by the Tripura School Education Department.
The school education department has been providing some academic input to the students through the televised and online classes to keep the students engaged during the lockdown situations.
For those students, who couldn’t attend online classes will be able to attend neighborhood classes by the concerned school teachers. This initiative will help the students to learn with the help of the teachers until the schools reopen in the regular way. The department has also declared a set of guidelines which are required to be followed while conducting the neighborhood classes.
Guidelines for conducting the classes
For the neighborhood classes, a group shouldn’t have more than five students from the same locality will be created. The groups can be formed for the students appearing for the ‘Bochhor Bachao Scheme’ while the teachers will also be going to the localities for conducting the classes.
Each teacher will conduct two classes in a day for a duration of 1.5 to 2 hours each. The teachers will have to cover a minimum of two groups in a day. When the teachers will be covering the reduced syllabus, it has been notified by the SCERT and the Tripura Board for the students from classes 9 to 12.
The classes will be conducted in an open space within the locality of the residence of the students for each group. The guidelines set have also explained that social distancing norms must be followed while conducting the classes. Further, all the teachers and students must wear protective masks and wash their hands at regular intervals to maintain their safety and health condition.
It has also been emphasized that children with any kind of illness will not be attending the classes and the onset of the parents must be taken before sending the students for the neighboring classes.
According to the guidelines, the periodic assessment will not be conducted this year; in lieu of, a monthly test of 10 marks for each subject must be conducted in the neighborhood classes. In case conducting classes is not possible the same must be informed to the respective DEO’s.
