The Jammu and Kashmir Government has issued health cards in the government schools in the state. The state administration along with the Mid-Day Meal and National Health Mission has offered cards to all the students from classes 1 to 12. Nearly 12 lakh students have received the health card which will make assured the students got top-notch healthcare and facilitate all-round development for them.

The initiative was launched in March 2020 by former Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Girish Chandra Murmu. As per the reports, there are at least 23,747 government schools from which 12,252 schools are in the Kashmir Division while 11,495 schools are located in the Jammu Division.

The health cards were issued by the Project Director, Jammu and Kashmir SamagraShiksha and Mid-Day Meal (MDM), Jammu and Kashmir – ArunManhas who described the task as a huge liability. While speaking at the Tribune he stated that the health card prepared by the MDM, Jammu, and Kashmir in collaboration with the National Health Mission, Jammu, and Kashmir will be the health archive of all the students from classes 1 to 12.

With the assist of health care, the state will be able to maintain a proper health record of all registered students. The health card could contain information regarding the immunization record of a child, bi-annual exam of the child, head to toe for 4D to find out defects at birth, deficiency, diseases, and development defers. Medical check-up of the students will also be conducted once a year mandatory under the new health card.
