After National Education Policy 2020 got approved by the Union Cabinet this afternoon, Nobel Peace Laureate and renowned activist Kailash Satyarthi tweeted to congratulate Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the “bold and progressive” policy. The National Education Policy 2020 turned as the newest education policy to get approved by the Union Cabinet in the last 34 years. Kailash Satyarthi wrote that he feels this policy will help the government abolish child labor in the country. His tweet says his tweet, “I congratulate PM Narendra Modi for a bold and progressive National Education Policy. Once fulfilled, the promise of universalization of education and multiple entry/exit will ensure that no child is left behind. This can help India achieve its goal to end child labor.”
Renaming MHRD a major change in NEP 2020:
The new rules under NEP 2020 have directed the extension of the age group of the Right to Education to policy. As of now, the policy is only valid up to the age of 14. Under NEP, this is expected to be extended to the age of 18. Restructuring of the current 10+2 schooling system, the new NEP will follow a 5+3+3+4 schooling model. Students in the age group of 3-8 years will be part of the foundation stage, 8-11 age group for preparatory schooling, 11-14 years for middle school and 14-18 for secondary level. The students will have more flexibility when it comes to choosing subjects across various streams such as arts, commerce and science under the National Education Policy 2020.“The draft NEP is based on the foundational pillars access, affordability, equity, quality, and accountability,” states the draft released today.
