Maharashtra Govt decides to conduct University final exams. The University Grants Commission (UGC) decided in favor of conducting exams, the Maharashtra Govt on Monday maintained its stands that it will be able to conduct final year university examinations in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The state government has taken the same decisions but the University Grants Commissions have taken a decision asking the states to conduct the examinations within the next two months.

The UGC Monday received clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs to mandatorily conduct final-year college and university exams, with officials of the university watchdog telling The Print that institutes could choose to hold the tests online if feasible.

“Maharashtra government decided to conduct the final year/final semester exam of non-professional/professional courses as the present atmosphere is yet conducive to conduct any exam or classes. Also decided to award degrees based on formula decided by universities,” the CMO Maharashtra said in a statement on Friday.

The Maharashtra government has decided not to conduct final year or semester exams of professional and non-professional courses due to the present COVID-19 situation. Maharashtra has 12,000 containment zones in the state and in case the students wish to appear for the exams the state government will conduct it but after the pandemic is kept under control. The education minister has requested the UGC and the HRD Ministry to support the decision taken by the state government.

The University Grants Commission had recently revised its guidelines for conducting the examination in the universities and colleges across the state. As per the new guidelines released, the colleges and universities have been asked to conduct the university final semester examinations by September for which many of the states have objected given the current health climate in the country.
