Maharashtra Supplementary Exam 2020 Over 2 Lakh SSC, HSC Students Wait for Board’s Plan. Over 73,000 students in standard X and over 1.31 lakh students in standard XII who failed in the board exams are left in the lurch as there is no clarity on when the supplementary examinations would be held, whether they will be held at all and what will happen if they are held too late, for admissions to higher classes.

Board officials said:

  • The date will be announced once the Covid-19 situation normalises in the state. Since 2015, the supplementary exams are held in July-August, making it easier for the students to apply for admission to the next level of education, within the academic year.
  • The results were also declared by the end of August. However, with no schedule on the horizon, the students of standard X and XII fear that they would miss out on this year’s admission season. FYJC round I ended on Thursday and admissions to undergraduate courses have also started.

A student opined:

Students have expressed their concerns regarding supplementary exams on social networking sites. “If exams like NEET and JEE can be held, then why can’t the board conduct supplementary examinations? These are national examinations with lakhs of students,”

A parent of another student said:

“My son has filled up FYJC forms. He has failed in one subject who means he is allowed to keep the term (ATKT) and apply. But it would be easier for him to prepare if they declare the date.”

Shakuntala Kale Said:

Shakuntala Kale, chairperson of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, said due to the Covid-19 situation, no decision on supplementary examinations has been taken yet.

“Everything is closed including schools. Otherwise, the board would have held the exams by now. But unfortunately, this year one cannot predict when the situation will normalise. We will declare the dates for supplementary exams when the situation on the ground normalises,” said Kale.
