The parents of students from Middle-East countries have filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking the postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test 2020 (NEET), scheduled for July 26. News agency ANI reported that the parents have made this demand — either set up the examination centres in the Middle-East or postpone the NEET 2020 examinations in view of the ongoing circumstances due to COVID-19. Earlier a similar plea was rejected by the Kerala High Court. Meanwhile, the Parents’ Association of India has also pointed out a few important issues in its letter to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The exams should only happen when the COVID-19 situation is less scary as those students coming from containment zones can be carriers of the novel coronavirus. The association urged the government to frame a new set of guidelines “for the loss and the mental anguish that the students have had to go through due to the pandemic, in terms of marks, giving more time for preparation and any other way the government finds suitable.

HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the India Wide Parents Association said it has been receiving complaints from many parents and students across India regarding conducting JEE Main and NEET Exam in the month of July amid pandemic situation when the infections are at an all-time high. It said that the “shortage of medical facility” has also made the parents even more frightened. NEET and JEE Main examinations can be postponed for a few months till the situation is under control
