Private Engineering Colleges to Admit On The Basis Of Class XII Marks. Every year class XII marks would rarely be the deciding factor to get admission in an engineering course, but the scene has changed this year. Due to the pandemic crisis, most private engineering colleges that would conduct its entrance exams have decided to enroll students in the BTech course.
Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) recently announced the cancellation of its entrance exam VITEEE and decided to consider the class XII scores for admission to the new academic year.
V Rajasekar, head, admission cell, Vellore Institute of Technology says
“We will not be able to hold the VITEEE owing to the prevailing COVID crisis. A committee has been set up to formulate the method for admitting students based on their class XII marks,”
The students’ rank will be decided on the basis of their scores in class XII and JEE Main exam, he adds. While the exact cut-off for admission to the various engineering branches has not been decided yet, the cut-off will be highest for Computer Science.
Amity University has also scrapped the entrance exam for admissions to various courses including engineering.
Balvinder Shukla, vice chancellor, Amity University says
“Admission in the various engineering programmes at Amity till last year was based on the All India Entrance Test AMITYJEE. The admission process this year has been altered due to COVID19. The university will evaluate the students based on a video session,”
After assessment through video session, candidates are screened by the admission department based on eligibility criterion, adds Shukla. A student should have secured more than 70% marks in class XII PCM for applying to BTech Computer Science. While for BTech ECE/ME/CE/IT, the cut-off is 60% and above.
JK Lakshmipat University, Jaipur is considering the results of class XII as well as university-based online entrance exam for admissions.
While, the university had been taking into consideration the scores of class XII earlier as well, the online entrance exam has been introduced this year.
RL Raina, vice chancellor, JK Lakshmipat University says
“The university has set up the cut-off scores for admission to various branches in engineering based on the applications received from students. Computer Science has the highest cut-off among all the other branches. For Computer Science, the student should have secured 60% in PCM, while for the rest of the engineering courses it is 50%,”
Lovely Professional University (LPU) has continued with the LPU National Entrance and Scholarship Test (LPUNEST) for admitting students to the new academic year. The test has been shifted to online mode this year. Besides, the scores of JEE Main and Class XII are also key selection criteria.
Rajeev Sobti, dean, Division of Admission, Lovely Professional University says
“For admission to universities, it is important that students should score a minimum of 60% in class XII examination,”
“The university is holding a remotely proctored online exam wherein one proctor is managing around eight to ten students. LPUNEST online exam is mandatory only for candidates who are aspiring to take admission in BTech. However, for other disciplines, conducting the test is not a convention,”
