Semester exams – State Governments Need Decision-Making Power; TN Chief Minister’s Letter to the Central Minister. The Chief Minister has written to the Central Minister that the state governments need the power to decide on college semester examinations. The University Grants Commission has announced that university final year exams will be held by the end of September. But opposition leaders and students have demanded that the exams be canceled.
In this context, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Palanisamy has written a letter to Central Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokriyal. In it, students will have trouble participating in the exam due to corona infection.
There is an environment where elections cannot be held in September. Therefore, the state governments should be empowered to decide on the final semester examinations of the college and the results of the college semester examinations in September should be reconsidered.
Tamil Nadu Government today asked the Center to give freedom to the states to work out its own assessment methods for students, without compromising on the quality and academic credibility. In a letter to the Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Minister for Human Resource Development, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister Edappadi said that the Covid-19 pandemic is showing a surge in various parts of the country including Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu has the highest Gross Enrollment Ratio of 49 per cent among the States, resulting in a large number of students studying in various Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics. Though we had scheduled their semester examinations in April 2020, these examinations could not be conducted as scheduled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
