Sikkim School and College Students to get Holidays: The Sikkim State Education Department has announced the closing of all government and private schools, colleges and universities will be closed till 15th October 2023. This has been announced by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang of Sikkim.

The reason behind the closing of schools and colleges for more than one week is due to the disaster caused by the flashing floods in the Teesta river basin. The flash flood in the Teesta River was occurred by the cloudburst in Lhonak Lake and it caused accumulation of huge quantity of water. Search for the missing people is underway, at the same time the state administration and the defence forces are making efforts to escort stranded tourists to safety places.
As per the information, more than 20 people had died including soldiers and more than 100 people were missing due to the sudden flood in the Teesta river. The central government has promised the Sikkim state for help.
