Education Dept issues online class guidelines, maximum class duration to be 45 minutes. TN government has issued new guidelines for online classes in schools in the state. As per the new guidelines, the classes will be of 30 to 45 minutes duration with a mandatory break of 10-15 minutes.
Online Class Duration:
The guidelines have been issued by the department keeping in view the health of the students. The newly constructed guidelines for online education restricts the duration of classes to 30 to 45 minutes with a mandatory break of 10 to 15 minutes for students to get some rest, especially give rest to their eyes.
School Education Secretary Dheeraj Kumar said:
The order issued for students of classes 9 to 12, online classes may be undertaken for not more than four sessions of 30 to 45 minutes a day. Only two sessions a day will be allowed for students in classes 1 to 8.
“No online classes may be scheduled for pre-primary classes for teaching curriculum. But, online sessions may be scheduled for interacting with parents and guiding them for not more than 30 minutes. Children exposed to gadgets for a long time are prone to severe health issues. Excess use can be avoided by designing an age-appropriate schedule of digital education.”
Teachers before each session will be given five minutes’ time to warm up, exercise, and conduct creative activities, as directed by Madras High Court. Students will be under parents’ supervision before providing gadgets like smartphones, laptops with data connectivity. Moreover, the government has fixed the maximum number of classes for teachers to avoid excess stress.
“A teacher may take a maximum of six classes a day subject to a maximum of 28 classes a week”, the order said. The classes will be scheduled between 9 am to 5 pm weekdays. Furthermore, all other electronic communication regarding online classes or assignments will have to be done between 8 am to 6 pm.
