TikTok Ban leads Users to engage in other platforms. As India has banned 59 Chinese apps in which TikTok is included, people started shifting to alternate apps that are similar to TikTok. People started moving on to Apps like Mitron, Roposo, Sharechat and Chingari within just 48 hours after the Indian government’s ban. Still, other social media engagement are yet to catch TikTok’s place.
Sharechat and Roposo gained more interest among the people and there were a lot of installations and users for the same.
Chingari and Mitron apps come in the next level, et their reach is a little slow compared to Sharechat and Roposo. Chingari had a little over 4% unique new users increase after July 4 while the Mitron app had 3%. Compared to these TikTok lost 10.5% unique users on July 1 and 32.2% unique users on July 29. Compared to these 5 apps TikTok had 40% high unique users in this May. India had 200 million strong users which are wiped away now.
The open time rates and average session time in these five apps are less compared to TikTok. If the Indian Government removes the ban, people are ready to move again from these apps.
TikTok’s open rates are between 2 to 3 times a day. Chingari and Mitron are yet to catch up with TikTok with app open rates of just 4.4 times as of July 4th. However, Sharechat and Roposo had a higher open rate of 8.7, and 6.0 respectively.
As of July 4, Sharechat also had a higher daily session time of 22.1 minutes per user, and Roposo recorded a daily session time of 14.5 minutes. Chingari recorded a total session time of 5.3 minutes, and Mitro recorded a session time of 7.7 minutes daily per user.
ByteDance, owner of TikTok had profit worth ₹3.4 crore and total revenues of ₹43.7 crores in India during March 2019.
