UGC Semester Exam Guidelines 2020. Delhi High Court has issued notices to Central Government and University Grants Commission, seeking their response, on a petition which challenges UGC Final Semester Guidelines issues recently that have made Final Year Exams for University and College Students Mandatory to be held by September-end.
Petition Filed by Delhi University Student:
As per media reports, the petition challenging UGC guidelines that make Final Year Exams 2020 mandatory for students, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, has been filed by final year Delhi University student Kabir Sachdeva.
Through the petition, the student has sought directions from Delhi High Court, to promote the final year students on the basis of the marks obtained in previous years and internal assessment in the present year.
The petition during the initial arguments said that:
“In times of a global pandemic, the concern Ministry and UGC have placed irrational weightage on academic evaluation and completely neglected the importance of the lives of thousands of students”
Students, Parents Protest Against Mandatory Final Year Exams:
The revised UGC Guidelines issued by UGC with regards to the mandatory holding of Final Year Exams 2020 for university and college students, has come under heavy criticism from various stakeholders, including students, parents and even faculty members as well as several state governments.
The major concern expressed by the students, parents and state governments is related to ensuring students’ safety while regards to the mandatory holding of Final Year Exams 2020 amid the on-going pandemic and rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country. Students and parents have been urging MHRD and UGC to revise their stand on the matter.
