West Bengal Chief Minister announced that schools and colleges will be shut till August 31, 2020. In a press conference at secretariate, Chief Minister of West Bengal announced that Schools ,Colleges and universities in state will be shut till August 31,2020 due to the rise of COVID 19 Pandemic. She further said that, after analyzing and evaluating situation by the end of august necessary decision will be taken about the reopening of schools,colleges and universities.
The chief minister shared that in case if the situation improves in the month of August then the government will think about reopening the schools on September 5, 2020, which is also observed as Teacher’s Day and continue the classes until Durga Puja. She also mentioned that, in concern with the spread of corona virus, even though the school is reopened, classes will only be conducted on alternative days. She also highlighted that no final decision is taken yet by the state government. Mamata Banerjee has also requested Prime Minister to withdraw ugc guidelines regarding the final year semester examination to be held on september.The Chief Minister raised concerned on the possibility of conducting the exams as the educational institutions remain closed due to the pandemic.
She stated that conducting the exams will increase the risk of students from getting infected with the disease which reason a request has been made to take up the issue with the HRD Ministry and stick to the guidelines which were issued by the UGC in April 2020 so that students will not face any troubles
